What Is Kratom

Kratom is a tropical tree related to coffee is native to Southeast Asia. Leaves from the tree are used for centuries as a standard remedy for pain. The leaves are often eaten raw but are sometimes crushed and made into a powder. The powder is then consumed in capsules, smoke-cured or brewed in teas.

According to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, consumption of kratom in low and produces simulating effects. However, in large amounts, it acts as a sedative and may lead to psychotic symptoms, also as psychological and physiological dependence.

 

How Is Kratom Taken?

There are several administration ways for this drug. Each dried and fresh leaves will be chewed. The leaves may also be smoked or used to steep tea. Others could like snorting or smoking it. The last two options became quite standard, as they result in stronger effects. Some people can favor using the extracts instead because the extracts have a much stronger result. Extracts are essentially the concentrated type of the leaves.

While kratom may be a medicine, it can also become addictive. Long use will lead to abuse and dependence. This can be due to the actual fact that the alkaloids and metabolites have similar properties to opioid and opiate alkaloids. They attach to the same receptors within the central nervous system.
